The Internal Referrals Report is used to track patients who were referred from one location/provider to another within the same practice group during the selected time frame.
This report helps practices measure:
- Monthly Referral Count
- Referral-Based Production & Payments
- Provider-to-provider referral performance
- Cross-location collaboration efficiency
It provides a Summary View and a Detail View, offering visibility into internal referral volume and associated revenue impact in real time.

Let's get started!
- Navigate to the System Menu > select Operational Reports under Insights.
- Click the + icon on the left or the Generate Report button on the right for the chosen report.

The Summary View provides grouped referral metrics and revenue attribution.
Let us explore the filters:

| 2 | Group By* | Use this filter to group the summary table of the report by Referring Location, Referring Provider, Referral Location and Referral Provider. *Default grouping: Referring Location, Referring Provider, Referral Location and Referral Provider. |
| 3 | Referring Location | Use this filter to focus the report on locations from which the patient was referred. |
| 4 | Referring Provider | Use this filter to focus the report on the provider who initiated the internal referral. |
| 5 | Referral Location | Use this filter to focus the report on the destination location receiving the referral. |
| 6 | Referral Provider | Use this filter to focus the report on the receiving provider handling the referred treatment. |
Once you have selected the desired filters, click on the Generate button to generate your on-screen report or Download Report As button to download your report.
Generation/Download Criteria
Due to data volume, reports with a date range greater than 12 Months cannot be generated/downloaded.
Result - Summary View
Now, let's take a look at the results of the Refer Out (Internal Referrals) Summary View:
- Group By Columns: Based on selected grouping filters.
- Number of Patients: Counts unique patients referred out within the date range.
- If referred multiple times to the same location/provider within the period → counted once (initial refer-out date considered).
- If referred to different providers or locations → counted separately per combination.
- If referred multiple times within the selected range → counted only once per referral combination.
- Gross Production: Total value from completed treatments for referred patients at the referral location under the referral provider.
- Accepted Production: Total value of accepted treatments for referred patients.
- Proposed Production: Total value of proposed treatments for referred patients.
- Presented Production: Total value of presented treatments for referred patients.

- Date Referred: Initial referral date within selected period (per provider-location combination)

- Proposed Production: Total value of proposed treatments for referred patients.
- Presented Production: Total value of presented treatments for referred patients.

To enable permissions for the Refer Out (Internal Referrals) Report,
- Navigate to the System Menu > select Practice Settings > Administration > Profiles.
- Click Manage Permissions for the intended profile.
- Select Insights.
- Select the Generate Refer Out (Internal Referrals) Report option under Operational Reports.
- Click Save.
- On the Confirm Action modal that appears, click Yes to proceed.
- A toast notification appears on the top right stating, 'Profile updated successfully'.
