Chart Navigation Commands
A periodontal examination typically begins at Pocket Depth (PD) on Tooth #18. From there, you can move anywhere on the chart using simple voice commands. Let's take a look at the different commands.
1. Moving Between Teeth
To jump to a different tooth while keeping the same surface and measurement, simply say the tooth number.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Go to tooth number 16'.
- 'Go to number 16'.
- 'Move to number 16'.
- 'Number 16'.
| Tip: Use 'Right', 'Left', 'Next', and 'Previous' commands to navigate between adjacent teeth. |
2. Switching to a Different Surface
When you need to move to a different surface, include the surface name in your command.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Number 16 palatal'.
- 'Go to number 16, facial'.
- 'Go to tooth number 16, palatal'.
3. Switching to a Different Measurement
To change the measurement type while navigating to a tooth, include the measurement name in your command.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Number 16 recession'.
- 'Go to number 16, pocket depth'.
- 'Go to number 16, mobility'.
- 'Go to tooth number 16, recession'.
| Tip: Short forms for measurements also work: PD (Pocket Depth), GM (Recession), MGJ (Mucogingival Junction), and MOB (Mobility). |
4. Switching to a Different Measurement and Surface
To change both the measurement type and surface in a single command, include both in your command.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Number 16 palatal recession'.
- 'Go to number 16, palatal MGJ'.
- 'Go to tooth number 16, palatal pocket depth'.
Recording Bleeding & Suppuration
Bleeding and suppuration can be recorded at any time. Voice Perio logs the finding and immediately returns focus to where you left off.
1. Bleeding on a Whole Tooth (Current Surface)
Marks bleeding on all three sites of the current surface: mesial, centre, and distal.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Mark bleeding on tooth number 14'.
- 'Bleeding on number 14'.
2. Bleeding on All Surfaces
Adding all sites marks all six sites, both facial and palatal, in a single command.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Mark bleeding on tooth number 14, all sites'.
- 'Bleeding on number 14, all sites'.
3. Interproximal Bleeding
Records bleeding on the mesial and distal sites of the current surface. To record on the opposite surface, add the surface name to the command.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Interproximal bleeding on number 16'.
- 'Interproximal bleeding on tooth number 16, palatal'.
- 'Interproximal bleeding on number 16 and 14'.
4. Bleeding on a Specific Site
To target a single site, specify the site. To record on the opposite surface, add the surface name at the end.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Mark bleeding on number 16, mesial'.
- 'Bleeding on tooth number 16, distal'.
- 'Bleeding on number 16, mesial of palatal'.
- 'Bleeding on tooth number 16, distal of palatal'.
5. Suppuration
Suppuration follows exactly the same command patterns as bleeding; all levels of specificity apply.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Mark suppuration on tooth number 16'.
- 'Suppuration on number 16, distal'.
- 'Suppuration on number 16, mesial of palatal'.
Recording Plaque & Furcation
For furcation and plaque, you must specify the grade in your command. If you omit the grade, Voice Perio defaults to Grade 1.
1. Furcation/Plaque on the Current Surface
Specify the grade and optionally a site. If no site is given, the finding is recorded on all sites of the current surface.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Grade 1 furcation/plaque on number 16, distal'.
- 'Grade 2 furcation/plaque on number 15, mesial'.
- 'Furcation/plaque on number 18'.
2. Furcation/Plaque on a Different Surface
To record on the opposite surface, add the target surface at the end of the command. For example, if you are currently on the facial surface and want to mark palatal.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Furcation/plaque on number 16, distal of palatal'.
- 'Grade 2 furcation/plaque on number 18, palatal'.
Marking Tooth Status
Voice Perio lets you mark teeth as missing or impacted without leaving the chart. You can target a single tooth, a list of teeth, or if no tooth is specified, the tooth you are currently on.
1. Mark Missing
Marks one or more teeth as missing. Saying the command without a tooth number marks the current tooth.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Mark missing'.
- 'Mark missing tooth number 18'.
- 'Mark missing number 18'.
- 'Mark missing tooth number 18, 17, 16, 15'.
- 'Mark missing number 18, 17, 16, 15'.
2. Mark Impacted
Marks one or more teeth as impacted. Follow the exact same command patterns used for missing teeth.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Mark impacted'.
- 'Mark impacted tooth number 18'.
- 'Mark impacted number 18'.
- 'Mark impacted tooth number 18, 17, 16, 15'.
- 'Mark impacted number 18, 17, 16, 16'.
3. Insert Tooth
Reverses a missing tooth marking, restoring the tooth to the chart.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Insert tooth'.
- 'Insert tooth 16'.
- 'Insert back tooth number 16'.
4. Clear Impacted
Removes the impacted status from the current tooth.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Clear impacted tooth'.
5. Remove
This command is utilised to remove a specific property assigned to a tooth, such as bleeding, suppuration, plaque, pocket depth, impacted, etc., facilitating the modification or correction of recorded data for that tooth. The surfaces are specified depending on the condition. For example, an impacted tooth does not need surfaces to be mentioned.
Sample Voice Commands:
- 'Remove bleeding from tooth 12, mesial'.
- 'Remove all suppuration from tooth 13'.
- 'Remove bleeding from tooth 14, mesial and distal'.
